Massage modalities
Swedish massage
The most familiar style of massage, using long gliding strokes (effleurage), kneading strokes (petrissage), tapping or hacking strokes (tapotement), slow steady pressure (friction), and rocking, jostling and vibration.
Deep tissue massage
Slow strokes and pressure on specific areas suffering from chronic muscle tightness. Deep tissue massage is often used to treat extremely tense areas such as upper or lower back muscles, hip muscles, calves, and forearms.
Trigger point release
Trigger points are small tight bands of muscle which can cause pain, stiffness, and muscle fatigue. Applying pressure to trigger points releases the tightness, reducing the pain, stiffness, and fatigue.
